Reflexology for #Careerlions
A few years ago, I was introduced to the magic of reflexology by Liona and her family during our time in Jakarta. I wasn’t sure what to think of it and was really hesitant to make our first appointment. Mainly, because you were not able to see what it was beforehand and I have never been a massive fan of strangers touching me. I am one of those people that doesn't even love the massages at the hairdressers. Just wash my hair and get it over with. But reflexology has changed me and opened doors for me to try out massages now as well. It became one of my favorite things to do in Jakarta together with the family. I can’t wait for another reflexology appointment and to be back in Jakarta while I am at it! Did I arouse your curiosity? Read all about reflexology in this blog.
According to Wikipedia:
“Reflexology, is an alternative medicine involving the application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a pseudoscientific system of zones and reflex areas that purportedly reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands, with the premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.”
Reflexology is nothing new. It can be traced back to 2330 B.C. in ancient Egypt, but also to India and China. Reflexology, as we know it today, is the work of Eunice Ingham, an American Therapist. She mapped out the feet’s and hand’s reflex points corresponding to all of the organs, glands, and parts of the body.
Why you need to make an appointment now?
While there is no supporting evidence yet that reflexology is effective for any medical condition, I am certain that it is definitely effective as a stress-releaser. The aim of reflexology is to naturally restore your body’s balance. The tension in your body will be reduced, making you feel more relaxed. Also, your sleep, mood, and sense of wellbeing will be improved. If you are feeling stressed out and feel the tension building in your body, make an appointment now.
What will an appointment look like?
They will ask you for your full medical history, which is of course confidential. This is important as you don’t want them to overstimulate your broken toe for instance. You will be asked to remove your shoes and socks. Yes, this is all the clothing you will need to remove. No need to strip. The therapist will be applying pressure to your feet, lower leg, hands, ears and/or face depending on the session you chose. During the treatment, there may be some discomfort. There may be some joint cracking involved. Overall though, it is a relaxing experience.
